The Pt. Betsie lighthouse, located just a few miles north of Frankfort, Michigan, was built in 1858. The light tower is constructed of brick and is approximately 37 feet high; both the tower and attached keepers quarters have distinctive markings of white with a red roof. The light contains a beautiful rotating Fourth Order Fresnel with a bull's-eye lens arrangement. Sitting 52 feet above the lake, this lens has a range of 27.5 miles.

The lighthouse was manned for 106 years and finally automated in 1983. The Lighthouse grounds are an active Coast Guard facility, with the keeper's house occupied by Coast Guard personnel. The surrounding beach is available for walking and picture taking.

The beach takes a harsh pounding from Lake Michigan storms; you’ll notice plenty of concrete and steel breakwaters and aprons for shoring around the base of the lighthouse.

The Point Betsie Light Station is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan near the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
